The Big Chop

I recently chopped off my hair, like i literally woke up by 2am grabbed a pair of scissors and chopped it off. My mum almost cried when she woke up in the morning and saw the damage.  I've been wanting to cut it for year but i didn't have the courage to and to be honest i was worried that people would no longer find me attractive. So anyway i chopped it off and then went to the salon the next day to have it 'neatened' up.

The initial reaction wasn't exactly positive i must confess. I got a lot of "Why did You cut your hair, what's the matter!!!", "it makes you look 'somehow' " and the worst "are you sure u'll find a husband this". laaal. Nigerians have no chill whatsoever!
Anyway it appears with the hair came a new attitude because for some reason i really couldn't be bothered about other peoples opinions. I love my new hair, i think it reflects my personality and other than the fact that people tend to stare a bit more than usual i really havnt noticed any differences in the way people treat me.

It's so funny 3weeks on, people now walk up to me to say they love my haircut and want to know where i had it done.

I'm not Sure how long this phase will last but i'm loving so far. Only downside is i think it makes me look even younger, what do you think guys am i just being paranoid?

Pins and Needles

I'm back! For the past couple of weeks I've been having a love affair with men's v-neck tees. They just seem to go with everything. Stole this one in the post from my brother eons ago but I never wear it as it just doesn't 'gauge'. So yesterday armed with a pair of scissors and pins I decided to reconstruct it. Hope you all like the end result as much as I do!

DIY : Black ruffle Bib Necklace

. I dont know if you guys know what has been going on in Nigeria, but we've had a nation wide strike since Monday protesting the removal of Fuel subsidy(i.e fuel prices have practically doubled). I've been going crazy with boredom as i havnt been allowed to join the protests.
Decided to do my 1st DIY project of the year and it turned out FAB! I can't wait to rock it with a pristine white shirt

the pleated chiffon ruffle i used was gotten from the collar of my mum's old shirt but you can find similar materials at your local haberdashery
once you've attached the ruffle to the ribbon you can procede to sew or glue on stones, bows and buttons  with reckless abandon :D
Check it out!!!!!

.....lounging Pants or as i call them jammies!

                                                                     This Morning

Had a lot of cleaning to do , so i put on my fave white shirt and my denim cutoffs. Covered my hair turban style because of the dust. My mum spent the whole morning giving me the 'side-eye'. lol

LATER
Well as much as i was loving the sexy housewife look, those cut offs are pretty tight and 'camel toe' inducing so i decided to change. and i stumbled on the perfect jammie pants! My brother's ankara bottoms! theyr comfy, roomy plus they have pockets! the beautiful part is i think one size fits all. i actually made these pants for him a while ago had no idea they'd come in so handy. Dont even want to imagine what he'l do to me when he gets back....lol. My top also belonged to him once upon a time till i revamped it :D

Inspiration in times of boredom!

On the way to 'school' yesterday i spotted a set of grey 'Opia' beads in the window of a store and ofcourse i had to buy them (have i mentioned that i'm an accessories junkie) anyway lesson today was sooo boring! for some reason i just wasn't connecting with the work, all the pattern terms 'half back'  'center front'  'notching' just kept swimming in front of my eyes. Instead of doing my excerises for the day i got carried away by the scraps of ankara littering the floor and to the annoyance of my instructor i decided to spend the rest of the day playing with some cut offs and beads.

As i was feeling a bit lazy i just folded and scrunched up little squares of ankara and then bound it all with heavy duty glue and then i stuck on a round piece of felt to hide all the threads. I attached the hair comb with a needle and thread. You can find these combs at any arts and craft shop, mine is handmade.

I made this from three strips of ankara, i basically just braided it and then made a knot at one end and a loop at the other. :)

When i got home i decided to revamp my grey beads, yea i think it looks so much better now too!

P.s ; I've been thinking of doing a collection of  just bags, tee-shirts and accessories. more on that later!
